Long ignored by fine-wine lovers, the vineyards of southern Italy are undergoing a renaissance and for the past several years, Italian wine growers are rediscovering many of the nations ancient native varieties. Sicily, Puglia, and especially Campania now crop up in every conversation about the best 'new' wines - some of which are wines from grape varieties that have been cultivated in the volcanic hills around Naples and Salerno for up to 2500 years.

Join us to rediscover two new Italian favorites.

The region of Puglia produces more wine than any other Italian region and competes with Sicily for first place as grape producer.

The history of grape vine in
Puglia has very ancient origins and it is believed this plant has always been present in the territory of the region.

The wines mainly representing
Puglia are reds and roses, however in the region are also produced interesting white wines.

The region of Campania
is firmly on the tourist’s map, but curiously not on the wine lover’s map. There are superb wines being produced here, with its Ancient Greek grape varieties.

Campania is rich in culture and is known for its gastronomy, architecture, ancient sites such as Pompeii and its capital city of Naples.

The name of Campania itself is derived from Latins Campania felix, which translates to "fertile countryside".

Bacchus, a wine boutique on the upper west side, hides a fantastic tasting room and an extensive wine cellar below. We gather here amongst oak shelves and stone columns to sample eight South Italian wines paired with typical cheeses and foods from the regions. Learn something exciting about this ancient and culture-rich country side and mingle with an international group of young professionals.
